The
Halberstadt center-entrance cars were built by the RAW Halberstadt for the DR in
the late 1970s and early 1980s. Previously, so-called Reko cars with a length of
only 18.7 m would have been built. But after the RAW factory was rebuilt, it was
finally possible to build cars according to UIC specifications with a length of
26.4 m. The cars have center entrances similar to the n-cars of the Deutsche
Bundesbahn. The cars were given the Bhme class.
The
color scheme of the first series was the usual DR dark green with a gray roof.
From 1981, the DR introduced a new color concept: chrome oxide green / beige
with a brown roof. However, only the center-entrance cars intended for
long-distance trains were painted this way. For express and passenger trains,
the car body was uniformly chrome oxide green.
With
the introduction of the marking for the electric brake in 1986, the car was
given the Bmh class. In the years from 1978 to 1983, a total of 1279 Bmhe
center-entrance cars were built.
