Engadin Express
for
the Microsoft Train Simulator
This
Engadin Express fills a gap in the RhB series from Simtrain.ch. Over the past 10
years, the routes and vehicles of the Rhaetian Railway have been gradually
created. With this work, the meter-gauge railway network is now complete, and
Train Sim train drivers can drive all the routes of this Swiss mountain railway.
"Allegra Stammnetz Plus" and "RhB Nostalgie" can be installed at any time as
separate add-on products.
The
Engadin Express route from simtrain.ch includes the Rhaetian Railway's Engadin
Line from Bever to Scuol-Tarasp, the Upper Engadin Triangle from St. Moritz and
Pontresina via Samedan to Bever, the Vereina Line from Klosters to Sagliains in
the Lower Engadine, and the Bernina Railway section from Pontresina to St.
Moritz. The rolling stock included reflects the diversity of these route
sections. TrainSim train drivers will find almost the entire rolling stock of
the RhB's main network, as well as a few select Bernina Railway vehicles. And as
a special highlight, the car transport train is included, featuring the BDt 1731
control car, the covered car transport car, and the open loading and end cars.
The
Engadin Line of the RhB
The
actual Engadin Line runs from Bever, the connecting station to the Albula Line,
along the Inn River through the Upper and Lower Engadine. Passing Madulain with
its beautiful Engadine houses, Zuoz with the internationally renowned Liceum
Alpinum, and crossing the imposing Cinuos-chel viaduct, the line reaches Zernez.
Zernez is the starting point of the road through the Swiss National Park, over
the Ofen Pass and the Stelvio Pass. The line then crosses the narrow valley
between Zernez and Susch and reaches Sagiains, the southern portal of the
Vereina Tunnel. It then continues down through the Lower Engadine with the
villages of Lavin, Guarda, Ardez, and Ftan to its terminus in the spa resort of
Scuol-Tarasp. From here, there are connections to post buses to Samnaun,
Landeck, and Val Sinestra.
This
Graubünden railway line celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2013. Back in 1913,
this section of the Rhaetian Railway was the first fully electrified line of the
RhB. With a length of 50 kilometers, the line runs through 17 tunnels and over
79 large and small bridges through the high mountain valley. The narrow valley
between Zernez and Susch became particularly notorious on March 19, 1937, when
the brown "box locomotive" Ge 4/6 391 hit a snow slide, plunged into the Inn
River, and could only be rescued after more than two months.
