Our
route begins at the main station in Freiburg im Breisgau and then leads to Basel
Badischer Bahnhof. As part of the Rhine Valley Railway between Karlsruhe and
Basel, it is probably one of the most important north-south connections within
the European rail network and is now one of the busiest railway lines in Germany
for both passenger and freight transport. The route is particularly important
for cross-border rail traffic to Switzerland and France. It forms the main
access to the newly built Gotthard Base Tunnel towards Italy.
The development status is shown around 2013/14. The Katzenberg tunnel, which
opened in 2012 as part of the double-track high-speed line between Haltingen and
Schliengen, is also included. The container terminal in Weil am Rhein and the
freight bypass in Freiburg are also part of our route. The route thus offers
numerous opportunities for interesting driving tasks on more than 80 km of
track.
