Glacier Express 2 Landquart - Chur - Disentis

for the Microsoft Train Simulator

The line branches off from the Albula Railway shortly after the Hinterrhein Bridge near Reichenau and follows the valley of the Vorderrhein for its entire length. Here, the "Grand Canyon of Switzerland" welcomes you with spectacular views of an impressive natural spectacle. In the scenically magnificent Rhine Gorge (Ruinaulta), mighty rock faces tower to breathtaking heights on both sides of the tracks. But before you've had your fill of the bizarre shapes and colors, the train leaves this unique gorge landscape again. Disentis awaits you – and there, the monumental building of Switzerland's oldest Benedictine abbey, whose baroque twin towers have dominated the townscape since 1695. Regional trains run hourly on the route, with more frequent services as needed. Four express train pairs operate – all Glacier Express trains. The locomotives used are Ge 4/4 I, Ge 4/4 II, and occasionally Ge 4/4 III, and Ge 6/6 II are used for heavy freight trains. The necessary locomotive changes in the cramped Disentis station make operations there particularly varied.
