The
model series BR 110
The 110
was used in long-distance and express train services, and could be found
throughout Germany and in neighboring countries. In this high-quality service,
they were gradually replaced by the 103 series from 1970 onwards. In 1994, they
were finally assigned to DB Regio. In the summer of 1997, the first locomotives
were equipped with a conventional push-pull train control system.
The 110
set new standards in electric locomotive construction. Characteristics of this
were the high performance with low weight, the low susceptibility to damage and
maintenance intensity, which enabled a significant increase in maintenance
intervals, as well as the ease of operation. In this respect they were clearly
superior to their predecessors.
From
the end of the 1980s, the 110 was increasingly used for local transport, and
since the railway reform in 1994, the locomotives have been used almost
exclusively in local transport. But up until the 1990s, the standard locomotives
were absolutely indispensable for the DB and the 110 was the universal
locomotive for local and long-distance transport. The machine was not unfamiliar
in any part of the Federal Republic.
