The
Moselle Valley is one of the most beautiful and romantic landscapes in Germany.
Characterized by its mild climate and lined with vineyards, the Moselle flows
through one of the most charming river valleys in Europe. Our route begins at
the main station in Koblenz and then leads in a wide left curve to Moselweiß.
Here there is a large freight station with a very extensive track system.
After
Moselweiß, the route crosses the Moselle for the first time over the Gülser
Bridge. After Güls, the route follows the left bank of the Moselle to Cochem,
passing well-known wine towns such as Winningen and Löf.
Behind
Cochem, the route goes into the Kaiser Wilhelm Tunnel. Our route represents the
state of the railway line around 2012. During this time, some construction work
was underway to modernize it, including the extension of this tunnel. Our stand
still shows the old two-track tunnel tube with the construction work on the
first of the two newly planned tunnels.
After
the tunnel, the route goes via Ediger-Eller and Neef to Bullay. When leaving
Bullay, you drive over the famous double-decker bridge and then over the
hillside viaduct near Pünderich. The branch line to Traben-Trarbach branches off
here, while the main line leaves the Moselle valley and continues via Wittlich
towards Trier. At Quint, just before Trier, the route then meets the Moselle
again. From here, it goes via Ehrang with its large depot and freight station
over the Moselle bridge near Pfalzel to the main station in Trier. Also included
are the industrial area and the port in Trier-Pfalzel.
The
rolling stock on our route includes an electric locomotive of the BR 189, which
is mostly used for freight transport on this route, and the diesel railcar of
the BR 628/928. The railcars run on the branch line between Bullay and
Traben-Trarbach.
