Why stop when things are at their best? The resounding success of the ICE 1 paved the way for a sequel. A new, improved generation of high-speed trains was to be developed.
Bright minds at the former German Federal Railway determined the requirements for the second-generation ICE. It was intended primarily for use on less busy routes where an ICE 1 with its impressive 700 seats simply wasn't economical. Thus, the ICE 2 was limited to six intermediate cars, a driving trailer, and a power car. This train configuration allowed two trains to be coupled together to form a double unit when needed.
After entering service in 1996, the ICE 2 became a familiar and welcome sight on the rail network for over 20 years. With its top speed of 280 km/h, it certainly held its own against its big brother, the ICE 1. Because all good things must come to an end, the ICE 2 will be gradually phased out over the coming years. We think that's reason enough to keep its memory alive in Train Simulator.
Therefore, 3DZUG has recreated the ICE 2 with meticulous attention to detail and their usual high quality. Delivered in the current Deutsche Bahn redesign, the carriages are individually crafted and the passenger compartments are fully accessible.
