BahnMoment - Vol. 4: RBDe 560 DOMINO – Through the Bottleneck
Regional traffic on the line between Olten and Zurich is immense. The Zurich
S-Bahn runs as far as Brugg AG and Aarau, and there are also other S-Bahn lines
operating around Olten. This add-on focuses primarily on the S-Bahn services in
the Olten and Aarau area. For example, you'll drive the S29 between Olten and
Turgi, or the S23 from Brugg via Birrfeld to Olten. You'll also drive the S42
from Zurich to Muri on the Zurich - Heitersberg - Hendschiken section.
In addition to the scheduled scenarios, you'll also undertake special journeys.
For instance, you'll drive an empty train from Zurich Maintenance Depot to Olten
Hammer, and you'll drive a special train from Olten via the old line from
Mellingen and Baden Oberstadt to Zurich. You'll also drive a replacement train
in the snow using a Glarus Sprinter.
Although the tasks originate from the 2025/2026 timetable year, the route via
the Eppenberg Tunnel has not yet been published. All rail traffic between Olten
and Aarau is therefore squeezed through the bottleneck via Däniken and
Schönenwerd.
The DOMINO RBDe 560
In the late 1980s, SBB began commissioning the NPZ RBDe 4/4. Later, the trains
received the new TSI number "560". Between 2003 and 2017, the power cars and
driving trailers underwent major overhauls and received new intermediate cars.
From then on, the trains were called DOMINO.
The DOMINO in Train Simulator includes SBB vehicles (with automatic and standard
couplers), vehicles from RegionAlps, and, of course, the GlarnerSprinter.
Additionally, there is a vehicle leased from the OeBB (Oensingen - Balsthal
Railway).
